2023 IT Security Trends

Undoubtedly, 2022 has been one of the most challenging years for security teams. The uncertainty caused by the pandemic and political situations has thoroughly tested security systems. Cybercriminals have taken advantage of the times of rapid change and uncertainty, attacking potential victims through various methods, including phishing, malware, ransomware attacks, etc. As the number of attacks increased and potential penalties, both regulatory and in terms of customer trust loss, rose, cybersecurity became a priority at every organizational level. The topic of cybersecurity has shifted from IT departments to the highest-level boardrooms worldwide.

What are the trends for 2023?

According to research by Cybersecurity Ventures, there is an expected global shortage of 3.5 million IT security experts in 2023.

The trend of remote work culture initiated during the Covid-19 pandemic, which persisted in many organizations, will continue into 2023. With more people working remotely, the likelihood of finding ourselves in teams where we do not know each other well increases, posing a risk of employees falling victim to impersonation due to phishing attacks. The risk of connecting to corporate networks with unprotected devices also increases in remote work situations, where there is a higher chance that devices remain unmonitored. Endpoint protection will be one of the main priorities in 2023!

The expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) in every area of business and society, expected to continue this year, means there will be even more opportunities for cyberattacks on potential targets. According to Gartner analysts, there will be 43 billion IoT devices globally in 2023. The more devices we connect and network, the more ways attackers can use to enter and access data. While IoT devices are often not used for direct storage of sensitive data, attackers can find ways to use them as entry points to access other networked devices that may contain data.

New technologies will streamline business operations but also bring new risks.

Machine learning algorithms can examine a vast amount of data flowing through networks in real-time far more efficiently than humans ever could and learn to recognize patterns indicating a threat. Unfortunately, thanks to the increasing availability of artificial intelligence, hackers and criminals are becoming more skilled in its use (AI has been used for artificial "cloning" of the voices of higher executives and then falsely approving transactions!).

The second most crucial step, in addition to protecting endpoints, that can be taken in any organization is to ensure that it is actively promoting and nurturing a culture of cybersecurity awareness. Today, it is no longer enough for employers or employees to simply consider cybersecurity as an IT department issue. In fact, developing threat awareness and taking basic precautionary measures to ensure security should be a fundamental part of everyone's job description in 2023!

How to protect yourself?

Sky Express, a regional leader in digital data protection and the winner of the Best Cybersecurity Partner award from VMware, presents VMware Carbon Black EDR - the next-generation antivirus solution.

VMware Carbon Black represents a set of security solutions based on Cloud technology, focusing on protecting endpoints. VMware Carbon Black Cloud consolidates endpoint protection and IT operations into a protective platform that prevents advanced threats and enables companies of all sizes to simplify their daily operations. By analyzing billions of security events daily worldwide, VMware Carbon Black provides key insights into attacker behavior, allowing users to detect, respond, and stop new attacks.

VMware Carbon Black combines multiple capabilities to protect endpoints using a single agent and centralized console, enabling you to work faster and more efficiently.

The fact that VMware CB is a leader in endpoint protection is evidenced by the data that more than 5,600 clients worldwide protect their devices with this solution, including approximately one-third of the Fortune 100 companies.

VMware Carbon Black Cloud prevents attacks by facilitating:

Analysis of billions of system events to understand what is normal in your environment. Preventing attackers from abusing legitimate tools. Automating the incident investigation process to respond effectively. VMware Carbon Black Cloud provides the ability to "harden" endpoints by reducing potential attack surfaces and preventing threats to speed up incident response and defense against various threats, using the following features:

Endpoint Standard – Next-generation antivirus Analyze attacker behavior patterns over time to detect and stop never-before-seen attacks, whether they are malicious software, "fileless," or "living-off-the-land" attacks.

Audit and remediation – Real-time device assessment and remediation Easily review the current state of the system to monitor and enhance the security of all your protected devices.

Enterprise EDR – Proactive action and prevention Proactively search for abnormal activities using threat intelligence data.

We recommend that companies adequately protect themselves in a timely manner!

According to data from the National CERT, in Serbia, a cyberattack occurs every 39 seconds, placing our country at the top globally. Cybercrime is evolving and becoming increasingly sophisticated. Organizations need to stay up to date with the latest security tools and apply them to protect their networks and data from these advanced attacks. The highly qualified and trained engineering team at Sky Express can help you protect your endpoints, providing your IT team with the time to focus on daily tasks and duties.
